In My Weakness

In my weakness, I reach out for you.
Yearning to know your will in my life
Sometimes desperate, wondering if I will ever know.
Dreams wax and wane, leaving me without hope.
Much of my life lived in fear,
Causing my soul to be desert dry, yet I stand.
None of it seems possible any more
Where am I, heart grown cold?

As a watchman at the gate, I search for you,
Waiting for the signal that will save my life.
Faithfully I stand in my place, soon I will know
If there is any plan, holding on with only hope
Darkness tries to cover my eyes, playing on my fear.
Here I will continue to stand
Until the day that the sun rises no more
Standing steadfast, may my soul be bold.

It seems I am always searching for you.
On the edge of discovery of the call on my life
Looking over the line, straining to know
Faintly seeing what lies ahead, my hope.
But never stepping out, ever wrapped in fear,
I cannot cross to the other side, so I stand
Wanting to be where life is forever more
Sustained, never ending, to the end, bold.

All creation depends solely on you,
Sustaining, empowering, caring about each life.
To us, as humans, we have the gift, the ability to know
That by your closeness we are filled with hope.
This presence drives away our fear.
Before you it can never stand.
Give us hearts that yearn for more
So that as we stand watch, we may be forever bold.
